The Tragic Consequences of Idolatry

January 14, 2024 / Pastor Lance Gentry / Romans 1:24-25

Four warnings to keep us from the tragic consequences of idolatry:

  1. Warning! What we believe about God truly matters (v. 24a “Therefore…”)

  2. Warning! Abandoning God leads to God abandoning you to your sins (v. 24a “…God gave them over…”)

  3. Warning! Greater sin leads to greater impurity which leads to greater dishonor (v. 24b)

  4. Warning! This tragic downward spiral begins with idolatry (v. 25)

The four goals of the Apostle Paul in writing Romans and our four goals in studying this letter together:

  1. The Goal of Gospel-grounded Unity…right relationship
  2. The Goal of Gospel-centered Orthodoxy…right beliefs
  3. The Goal of Gospel-informed Orthopraxy…right conduct
  4. The Goal of Gospel-fueled Doxology…right worship

You can find these goals further explained in the first sermon in this series: https://www.sermonaudio.com/solo/abefc/sermons/1013231534407035/
